On 8th February, the Supported Internships team launched our new Medway programme at an Open Day held at Medway Voluntary Action in Chatham.
The Open Day was a great success, with 25 people attending including 7 young people interested in the course. Participants included families, carers, representatives from Medway Council, Bradfields School, Medway University Technical College and Medway Parent Carer Forum. CXK, Walt, and Medway Youth Trust were also present.
As with all of our work, the session was interactive and included input from Gemma (Project Lead), Alison (Functional Skills Tutor) and Martin (Job Coach). The collaborative and approachable nature of the team led to a natural connecting and networking opportunity for people at the end of the session.
35 Information packs were taken and 6 referrals are ongoing as a direct outcome of this event. Our very own supported intern, Brandon, joined the team and was able to give plenty of time to answer questions from participants. He had a long queue as everyone wanted to speak to someone undertaking the course!
Walt (Walderslade Together CIC) offered their support in providing work experience and passed on details of a potential volunteer for our Supported Internship Team to help with our social media. We have been offered a stand at the Medway Parent Carer Forum AGM in March and hope to see you there!
