To create a more equal world, we need to make sure that we are all working together. Within our Supported Internship programme, we do this by not only supporting people with learning difficulties to gain the skills they need to access and maintain meaningful employment, we also train and mentor employers and businesses to adapt and prepare for working with people who may need additional support. Our aim is to show employers how valuable to their business employees with a disability or learning difficulty are.
Last month, Supported Internship's Project Lead, Gemma, talked to the Medway Business Club on the topic of Legislation at Work. Gemma focused on disability and busted some myths around the fear from employers on recruiting people with disabilities.
Margaret, the founder of Medway Business Club said "I want to connect local business with the community, so they can give something back to the people using their business. We are happy to be involved in developing these links and partnerships with Skillnet and the Supported Internship programme".
