Lady luck was shining on work coach Karen Hughes when she recently meet up with two students at Minster Library. The lady in question was Mari Piper, a volunteer for Charity Group Sheppey Matters. After a lovely conversation about our work with Supported Internships at Skillnet Group, Mari invited Karen and members of the team to be interviewed on her monthly Radio Sheppey show, 'Mari's Mission' - Who says it doesn't pay to talk to strangers!
We had a wonderful time at Sheppey FM talking about Supported Internships, how we support young people into work and, importantly, asking employers to get involved! Molly Meares, a student from last year who is about to start a Business Administrator Apprenticeship with Skillnet, spoke about her experience of the programme and how it helped to build her confidence, independence and developed her communication skills.
Helena Jennings and Karen Hughes talked about the benefits to local employers and encouraged them to think of our programme as a free job matching service with support in the workplace to students and employers and staff.
Karen did an amazing job matching songs to the theme of supporting young people into work and may have carved out another career as a DJ!
And as always.... if you are an employer, please contact us for more information. We will be happy to come and talk to you about how we can support your business by matching you with the right staff and the right support.
